The nature and development of social support systems for combatting job burnout

The author analyzes the nature of social support systems, the effects of social support systems in reducing burnout, and methods of facilitating a burnout´s interactions with his/her social support systems. It is concluded that it may be difficult to form an effective social support system. Lack of trust and interpersonal and intergroup conflicts may inhibit open and constructive communication. Furthermore, inappropriate social interaction can be harmful. However, the overall conclusion is that the support group can be a powerful method for alleviating burnout
