  • Abstract
The system described was designed to meet the particular safety requirements of the nuclear industry and to correct the problems industry experience has identified as leading to deficient procedures. Effective procedures are built on: (1) a technical basis of the technical administrative, and regulatory requirements and commitments; (2) human factors principles for usability; and (3) upgraded production and delivery capabilities. The designing of an integrated procedures system is a process comprising four parts: (1) an assessment of the parts of the existing procedures system; (2) evaluation of the information obtained during the assessment; (3) the development of a conceptual design; and (4) the development from the conceptual design, of a detailed design. Assessment and evaluation are preliminary steps that determine the design objectives for an integrated procedures system. The conceptual design is the overall plan for upgrading the existing system to a fully integrated system. The detailed design contains the specific steps needed for upgrading parts of the existing system
