Abstract
An numerical analysis is presented to exhibit the potential of split spectrum solar cell system (SSSCS) to push solar energy conversion beyond 50% and to reveal the essential role of optical concentration in such system. In the analysis, it is assumed that an ideal optical system is used to split the solar spectrum and concentrate the radiation into six-solar-cell system. The simulation is performed using Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator (SCAPS) where the parameters of the used materials are extracted from literature and the transport is assumed ideal. With such ideal situation, an efficiency of 46.218% can be achieved without concentration. This can be pushed to 50.06% with 10 Sun concentration and to 53.85% with 100 Sun concentration.
