In order to demonstrate the seasonal variations and the vertical distribution behaviors of heavy metals Cd, Pb, Cr, Cu and Zn in the sediment of Poyang Lake, the climate changes were simulated through the sedimental core sample experiments in our laboratory. It was founded that: (1) the relation of heavy metals contents in sediment of Poyang Lake is in the order of Zn >; Cu ~ Pb >; Cr >; Cd, and the concentration of Cd is lower than that of the detection limit; (2) the concentrations of Cr and Zn in winter are higher than that in spring and autumn, which shows that the seasonal character is obvious; (3) the evaluation of environmental pollution through either the geo-accumulation index method or potential ecological risk index method shows that copper has a relatively strong pollution level in sediment of Poyang Lake, which should arouse the attention of departments concerned.
