Abstract :
Any proposed personal communications network (PCN) architecture must be fully compatible with emerging standards for network management and control of the universal personal telecommunications (UPT) service. The authors describe the architecture of a satellite based PCN, proposed as part of a Canadian Government Advanced Satellite Communications program. The description is based on an ISO/OSI compatible model, with particular description of PCN related network management and control aspects. An overview is given of the derivation of this model, the allocation of functions and processes to location in the network and a description of the major processes involved
