Abstract :
The authors describe a type-I hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocol with Reed-Solomon forward error correction (FEC) for asynchronous data transmission in in-building wireless systems. The performance of the protocol is evaluated in a frequency-nonselective Rayleigh fading channel with AWGN and FSK modulation with noncoherent detection. Throughput results are presented for different FEC rates and ARQ schemes. The results determine the relative gain in throughput when using FEC in a slow fading channel (in-building wireless), the amount of FEC which gives the best performance, and the relative performance of different ARQ schemes
