Thermal properties of clothing ensembles are important in analyzing heat transfer between human body and the environment. Although thermal properties of many western clothing ensembles have been investigated and collected in ISO9920, there are few data being available for ethnic minority clothing. To contribute to the database about world clothing information developed by ISO and ASHRAE, and reveal the thermal comfort of human body with traditional clothing ensembles, thermal insulations (clo) of Tibetan clothing ensembles wore by Tibetan people of China in summer and winter were examined by a thermal manikin according to ISO 15831. In addition, fiber contents, BSACs, weights, clothing area factors of Tibetan clothing were also investigated in this research. Results indicated that thermal performances and wearing manners of Tibetan clothing were very different from western clothing wore in our daily life, which could be valuable in design and development of functional clothing adapted in special environment.
