Abstract :
The authors consider a specific application of expert systems for power systems security analysis. Once a severe disruption has occurred in the power network, a series of tasks have to be accomplished before the operator can make any decisions. It is suggested that a computer-driven decision-making mechanism will help the operator to perform his duties with minimum flaws and maximum efficiency. Several aspects of the application of automated reasoning in power system security analysis have been addressed. The adjustments of real and reactive power injections, phase-shifters, and tap changing transformers have been considered as proper corrective actions in establishing the heuristic rules. The implementation of the idea has been tested on a six-bus system, and the results have been compared with those of analytical approaches. The proposed methodology has also been applied to the IEEE 30-bus system, and results are presented.<>
