In recent years, the environment has deteriorated and the sandstorm has been serious around Beijing regions, so monitoring vegetation changes in Beijing and Tianjin sandstorm source control area is very important. MODIS vegetation index products in 2000, 2004, and 2008 were selected as data sources. For the high correlation between NDVI and vegetation coverage, NDVI was used for quantitative basis of vegetation evaluation to monitor vegetation dynamic changes in Beijing and Tianjin sandstorm source control area. The results have shown that although different vegetation grades transferred a lot and management and destruction both existed, desertification degrees reduced and vegetation coverage presented an increasing trend in general.
