Abstract :
In order to overcome the defects of the current air navigation system, the Future Air Navigation System (FANS) has been developed by the International Civil Aviation Organization. FANS uses satellite technology to establish a new global communication, navigation and surveillance system and corresponding air traffic management system. The satellite-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS) system is one of the most important parts of FANS. This paper presents the basic concepts, construction principles and implementation work for the ADS system. As a part of ADS, the personal computer-based ADS message processing system was given much attention. Furthermore, this paper introduces the ADS trial status and points out that the implementation of ADS will bring tremendous economic and social efficiency
