Abstract
As the usage of the real time authentication system increases, more reliable methods of personal identification are needed to be developed. One of the preferred characteristics of human body is the palmar features. The geometrical shapes of the hands or the palmar lines are not changed throughout one´s lifetime except special cases. We propose a method by which those features are recognized together. This method utilizes the gradient properties of palm images which indicate the geometrical shape and the palmar line. Furthermore, the gradients indicate the curvature properties of the palm. A two-dimensional facet function of second order is used to calculate the gradients. An algorithm is suggested to find out the palm region in an image, which helps segregate the region in an effective way
