Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are commonly believed to cause human cancers and commonly analyzed in studies of coke plants. To estimate the damage of PAHs generated from coke plant, and to develop impact assessment methods, this study applies a life cycle human toxicity assessment for different sector in coking site of China. Both indoor (worker exposure) and outdoor emission of PAHs, differentiating the impact between various PAHs also were compared. Results showed that around 15%-35% of benzo(a)pyrene, benzo(a)anthracene, and chrysene emissions corresponded to 99% of impact. The order of potential carcinogenic impact seen in different sector considered as: outlet of oven >; oven top ≈ gate of coke plant >; coke quenching. Results demonstrated the feasibility and the potential significance of including worker exposure to PAHs.
