Abstract
It has been accepted that humans and animals are affected by thermal and non-thermal effects under microwave irradiation. In this paper, to study the non-thermal effects of microwaves at the cellular level, a pulse modulated microwave irradiation system for cultured cells has been developed. In the system, the cultured cells are inserted inside a cavity resonator and a slight carrier frequency sweeping method is applied to obtain accurate temperature measurements of the culture medium while subjected to pulse modulated microwave irradiation
