Abstract
This study aims at improving the service standard of the Chinese national freeway control system with fuzzy logic theory. The uncertain features of the freeway system are first considered. Then, a kind of multi-level fuzzy decision-making architecture, suitable for a large complicated system, is proposed, to act as the main control strategy. The fuzzy decision-making mechanisms of three major freeway control methods based on this kind of architecture are discussed in detail. The implementation of the fuzzy decision-making on the existing hierarchical computer surveillance system is finally probed
