Abstract
Much research has been undertaken recently in the areas of ICASE and reverse engineering. Both approaches have their problems and drawbacks: inflexibility and a blind manipulation of entities. Such problems can be overcome by incorporating intelligence into the tools. We propose a new type of ICASE tool: Knowledge-Based ICASE (KB-CASE) whose blackboard architecture enables it to support an extremely flexible software development lifecycle, offering reengineering and straightforward software development capabilities.
