Abstract :
Summary form only given. The phenomena cause by the third-order nonlinear susceptibility /spl chi//sup (3)/ (including Raman and electronic parts) which influence intense femtosecond light pulses propagating in transparent isotropic media have been studied theoretically. The derived nonlinear wave equations govern the dynamics of the electric field of a pulse (but not its envelope) in optical media. The nonlinear equations describe a wide range of nonlinear effects like transient stimulated Raman scattering, impulse stimulated Raman scattering, laser and Raman pumped parametric four-photon interactions, self-phase and cross-phase modulation, and third harmonic generation.
