  • Abstract
We propose service parameters, architectures to provide them, pricing policies and a heuristic route-reservation algorithm for a network providing bandwidth reservation services. Bandwidth reservation services allow users to choose or assign service parameters with which users´ requirements are satisfied. We classify the parameters by bandwidth reservation contents (ex. video conference, streaming) and study what kinds of parameters are necessary. We describe a centralized architecture model that suits the realization of these service parameters and to implement the techniques needed for effective bandwidth utilization. Additionally, based on the idea that some techniques are necessary to minimize the blocking of user requests, we explain the benefits of dynamic pricing where price depends on the time at which users make reservations. Similarly, we propose an algorithm that switches competing path routes only when a newly requested path competes against paths in service or reserved for future use. This ensures the provision of the users´ QoS requirements, increases network resource utilization, and minimizes path route changes. Numerical results indicate that switching just a few paths improves the request acceptance success rate by 30 %.
