Abstract
Scattering of axially symmetric or hybrid incident modes by discontinuities in the cross section of a dielectric loaded waveguide is determined using the mode-matching technique. Typical numerical examples are presented, showing the convergence of the calculations, the variation of the reflection coefficient of an incident hybrid mode with frequency, and the variation with the structure parameters. Discontinuities in dielectric loaded waveguides are accurately characterized using mode matching. Typical results showing hybrid mode scattering by such discontinuities are presented. Although the example presented is in the C-band, this type of transmission medium can potentially be used for millimeter, submillimeter, and optical wavelengths to reduce the transmission loss.<>
