Abstract
Summary form only given. Recent progress of femtosecond lasers has enabled us to observe real-time dynamics of nuclear motions in molecular systems. Moreover, quantum control of vibrational wavepackets is one of the most exciting subjects, because the products of chemical reactions can be selected by means of wavepacket shaping using tailored femtosecond pulses. We discuss the generation of the squeezed phonons associated with one-dimensional excitons in a mixed-valence metal complex. The present study is the first observation of the vibrational squeezing of the Franck Condon states in condensed matters.
