Abstract :
This paper presents the model of a static synchronous series compensator with the simulation package EMTP RV. The model uses a neutral point clamped (NPC) voltage source converter (VSC) to generate a high quality waveform. The model operation is verified with two types of controllers: direct and indirect to validate their mode of operation. Results of simulation tests for step changes in injected reactance, load variation and balancing of the DC capacitor voltages are presented
