Abstract :
Summary form only given. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was the first nonlinear optical process investigated. In this study, we demonstrate how to get arbitrary nonlinear phase shifts, also with minimal loss to the harmonic, by tailoring (with temperature) and verify the results by measuring the wavevector mismatch along LiNbO/sub 3/ waveguides. This extends the utility of cascading to effects such as the phase-induced transitions in soliton collision behavior.
