Abstract :
This paper describes how the longitudinal profile between two railway station platforms can be subjected to an energy minimization process. The preferred minimization method is an evolution by genetic algorithms (GAs). Two processes are first described: the GA process and the profile coding process prerequisite to optimization by GAs. Simulation results are discussed in the remainder of the paper. Those results show that in order to save energy two steps should be followed. First, optimize the profiles for the best running time. Second, reduce the train speed while meeting the required line capacity criteria
