Abstract
The effect of the lethal range of a coasting guided missile on the optimal missile avoidance strategy of a constant speed aircraft is investigated in the horizontal plane. The guidance law of the missile is proportional navigation and it assumed to have first-order dynamics. A great sensitivity of the "no-escape" firing envelope to the values of the time constant and lethal range of the missile is observed.
