Abstract :
In this paper, we discuss fault detection and diagnosis issues for discrete manufacturing systems. An enhanced Petri net is used to model a real plant. This model is especially appropriate to the systems controlled by PLC. By means of this model, the cause of failure is automatically searched, so that the diagnostic task of a complicated system can be successfully executed by the computer. The method developed in this paper has been demonstrated and proved by computer simulation, and it is a general method for other control levels of an automated manufacturing system
