Abstract
This paper defines the guidelines of a set of lectures for M.Sc. or Ph.D. students in electrical engineering. Often, these students are acquainted with the analysis and design of controllers for most power converters and electrical machines, using the Concordia and Park transformation. Based on these acquired skills, the main aim of this paper is to use a similar approach to define the main guidelines to design current controllers for matrix converters, using equivalent matrix converter dq models and considering two loads: resistive-inductive type and induction machines. In previous works, authors have obtained matrix converter models assuming ideal input and output filters, whose main advantage is the fact that they are based on the inferring of Venturini modulation indexes using the dq coordinates approach. The models are here reviewed and used to obtain a decoupled control of the output and input currents, allowing the establishment of adequate and independent control actions for the output and input variables, which was not possible with the original Venturini modulation approach
