Abstract
The authors describe the development of the NCSC (North Carolina Supercomputing Center) Mass Storage System Project, which includes implementing a data storage system based on UniTree running on an IBM 3090 connected to a Cray Y-MP via a high-speed network. They review project planning and execution, giving up-to-date results of testing and user experiences. Integration and extension of the UniTree file system into the other activities of the Supercomputing Center are also discussed.<>
