Abstract
The present paper is the first approach to the design of a PLC system onboard trains. The problems existing in this environment are described, and a selection of the channel, based on security and functional issues is presented. The channel is characterized in the time and frequency domain, and considerations on the implementation of an OFDM communication protocol are given.
