Abstract :
The method of tracing tangent point grinding is a new method for noncircular parts grinding, such as camshaft and crankshaft. This paper presents the key technologies of CNC noncircular camshaft grinding, first, A mathematical model describing the relationship between the displacement of grinding wheel center and the angular displacement of camshaft is established according to the cam lift; second, According to the principle of constant speed of grinding point, the relationship between the angular speed of the camshaft and the moving speed of the grinding carriage is presented. In order to resolve the tracking lag of servo control system due to the abrupt change of the feeding speed of the grinding carriage on condition that the speed of grinding point is constant, a novel strategy that part motion parameter optimization is discussed. The result of experiment demonstrates that the mathematical model is correct and the optimization strategy is effective. Implementation of the strategy to the velocity planning of camshaft grinding is able to reduce the maximum machined cam profile errors from 35 micron to 15 micron.
