  • Abstract
Summary form only given. The study has been an attempt to understand the dimensions of technological developments (TDs) across different phases of the product life cycle (PLC). The study is an exploratory one, conducted in a sample of 63 Indian organizations manufacturing general-purpose machinery. To achieve the objectives a cross sectional design was adopted to conduct the study. Eleven processes related to technological development variables were identified from literature and listed in the four phases of the PLC. From the results, it is evident that TD dimensions are different in different phases of the PLC. From the point of view of business strategy, for organizations where technology is the lifeblood, the results of the study are helpful in avoiding allocation of resources in a sub-optimal fashion, particularly in the technology function, and in aiming at synergetic planning for technology to achieve overall business goals
