Abstract
The system with flexible rotor supported by magnetic bearings is set up, in which the locations of the radial magnetic bearings can be changed. Influence of the bearing locations on dynamic characteristics of the system is studied by theoretical analysis, experimental modal analysis and actual operation of the system. The results show that the bending modal damping of the system varies obviously with the bearing locations. When the locations of the radial magnetic bearing are far from the nodes of the bending mode shapes, the vibration of the rotor can be effectively restrained when it operates on the bending modal frequencies.
