  • Abstract
The authors present a vision of the impact of advanced C3I (command, control, communication, and intelligence) technologies on future defense operations. It is shown that the complementary characteristics of fiber-optic, terrestrial RF, and satellite communications systems can be exploited to achieve a militarily responsive high-speed global grid communications infrastructure. Some of the salient technical problems hindering transparent incorporation of high-speed satellite communications into such an architecture are discussed
