Abstract :
The author describes the unique features and the continuing evolution of the JTIDS terminal hardware since its inception, with emphasis on preplanned product improvement and ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) insertion. Brief descriptions of the class 2, 2M, 2H, and MIDS LV terminals are provided. Specific examples illustrate how advanced technology can be used to improve the performance and cost of present generation equipment as well as to make possible smaller and even more affordable equipment in the future
