Abstract :
This paper deals with electromagnetic and thermal analytic modeling with the aim of a global optimization of surface mounted permanent magnet machines for high speed applications. The electromagnetic, thermal and core loss used models were validated by experimental tests. Using a stochastic evolutionary algorithm based on a particle swarm optimization (PSO), the mechanical, the thermal and the geometrical constraints are taken into account. The optimization study particularly focuses on the influence of the magnetic materials and the optimum value of the pole pair number i.e the optimum value of the conversion frequency.
