Abstract
Traditional intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) attempt to provide tutoring facilities that could satisfy all of the student, teacher, curriculum and institutional needs and requirements. However, this has proved to be an immense task that is too hard to carry out. The intelligent tutoring tools (ITTs) are therefore introduced as a solution by recognizing that curriculum needs to be broken down in small units. These units are then covered by individual ITTs, where each ITT sustained itself as standalone module. The ITTs contain all the traditional components of ITSs except that they cover very small amount of the domain content. The ITTs are then integrated in a network to provide higher level of intelligence. It is explained how this higher level of intelligence is achieved through vertical and horizontal integration of ITTs, a "higher level application" is described that utilizes the decentralized network of three ITTs to teach complex concepts of the domain.
