Abstract
The Mekong Region, consisting of the countries of Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar and including the Yunnan Province of China, has great potential for electric power development. Numerous studies have been performed, with the common conclusion that considerable economic benefits would arise from coordinated regional power system development, rather than each country developing only what is required for its individual needs. The Mekong Secretariat is currently studying different aspects of the transmission network requirements of the region which would facilitate these joint developments
