Abstract :
Since the throughput of the newer wireless networks approaches the general bandwidth of the wired environment thus the number of services, which need higher bandwidth, has increased. Each service has different QoS parameters, throughput preferences and charges. However, various wireless systems (e.g. GSM, UMTS, WLAN, WiMAX) provide different QoS parameters. Therefore we have to choose the suitable radio interface to prove the best quality of a given service. In this paper we introduce our novel network selection model which is based on the AHP and GRA methodology. Considering the user profiles and the available networks´ QoS parameters, for a given service the best radio interface can be determined automatically without any user interaction. In a realistic network environment we took some analytical measurements in order to analyze our network selection algorithm. These measurements verify that the algorithm works fine in a realistic network environment.
