Abstract :
US digital library funding is trying to maintain a balance between technology-focussed research and content-based research. New DLI-2 projects include voice, music, data, software, image, and video content, as well as reaching out to users including children, educators, and international groups, and continuing and expanding efforts on technology for interoperability security/privacy, permanence, and linguistics. We now seek a basis for long-term maintenance and sharing of scientific and scholarly data to transform research, replacing slow experimentation with data mining
