Abstract
In view of the increasing number of bandwidth-intensive services, expensive satellite links demand measures for a controlled flow of data, effectively complementing the improvements of coding and transmission techniques introduced in emerging standards such as DVB-S2. This paper proposes a QoS approach for IP-based services over DVB-S2 links by exploiting DVB-S2 variable coding and modulation capabilities without requiring feedback from the receiving side. The concept is based on the selection of suitable ModCods for particular information flows depending on their types of service, rather than on the reception quality reported back to the hub station.
