Abstract :
Summary form only given. The costs and quality of manufactured products are largely determined at the design stage. The development from material handling design to `preventive logistics system´ means to be able to cut life cycle costs including logistics costs and improve quality at an early stage and enhance customer satisfaction. This paper shows development and elements of just-in-time production system, e.g. quality, total productive maintenance (TPM), overall equipment effectiveness, change over reduction engineering (CORE). The present state and planned development of the design for the complete life cycle with the savings of administrative and logistical costs is shown using a German company as an example. Not only the quality of the product, but also the quality of the logistics is important for the competitiveness. Introduced are a range of industrial applications and some selected results of projects in Germany
