Abstract
This paper addresses several issues closely related to the training and technology transfer in two major engineering projects/fields in Vietnam: the commercialisation and development of Vietnam telecommunications systems and networks, and an international development project of the My Thuan bridge-a cable stayed bridge with 350 metre main span crossing the Mekong river in southern Vietnam. These two case studies have been selected to illustrate and contrast two principal areas of technological development, one involves the development of information technology and the other a major advanced engineering system physically linking two geographical areas crossing a large river
