Abstract :
A novel approach was developed for fast design of composite mold surface based on scattered points offsetting algorithm. This method would be quite effective in the situation a mold surface can´t be modeled by offsetting operation caused by surface geometric characteristics or design defects, and need inefficient manual interactions. Therefore, an algorithm was proposed to solve surface self-intersections. And an approach was presented to produce a triangular mesh based on implicit surface representation with boundary preservation characteristics. The experimental results indicate the proposed method will be a good solution to mold surface offsetting and improve the efficiency of composite mold design.
