Abstract
Summary form only given. In recent years, the trend of eliminating international trade barriers has forced the Taiwan government facing the pressure of joining the WTO (World Trade Organization). However, the impact of free trade to the long-been-protected industries such as agriculture and automobile manufacturing industries might be fatal. In order to understand to what extent this impact will affect the automobile industry in Taiwan, this paper analyzes the interaction among various roles play in the Taiwanese automobile market environment. In addition, as the result of this analysis, a strategic model has been proposed for helping the automobile industry to secure itself from the impact of joining the WTO. This research concludes that, from a holistic point of view, joining the WTO will benefit the local automobile industry in Taiwan in the long run
