Abstract
The steering control of an automated guided vehicle (AGV) using fuzzy control is proposed as a way to obtain fast response and save energy in the case of a step change of the guide tape. The desirability of the steering control is defined in terms of the energy saving. Fuzzy rules for realizing this desirable steering control are examined. This control strategy was implemented experimentally. It was found that the fuzzy control was more stable than proportional-integral (PI) control, and the steering angle was better than that of the PI control. The fuzzy control strategy also realized a good response regardless of the traveling speeds and the parameters of the AGV.<>
