Abstract :
The authors report in some detail on the design of the torquer and hinge for the dry tuned rotor gyroscope. They describe a strategy for the thermal design of the torquers that takes into account the temperature dependence of the magnetic field, the resistivity of the wire, and the coefficient of heat transmission. A method is presented for the design of the hinge for tuning and for minimizing anisoelastic drifts. The pickoffs and the torquer coils are fixed to the gyro case. The hinge is designed in such a way as to offer no elastic restraint torques if the rotor is driven at the tuning speed. The gaps between the rotor and the gyro case are sensed by the pickoffs. The operational aspects of the gyro are discussed.<>
