  • Abstract
For over a half-century, impregnated paper-insulated high-pressure gas-filled pipe-type power cable systems have quietly amassed an excellent record of service reliability. However, for various reasons, the use of HPGF cables in the USA has historically been limited to a maximum voltage rating of 138 kV. This paper briefly discusses the evolution of the HPGF cable through the years and describes the recent design and successful testing of a 230 kV HPGF cable, one that will meet both current and future needs of the power industry while also addressing the environmental concerns of today
