Abstract
Wire antennas have advantages of light weight and flexibility, suitable for mobile terminal applications. A monopole-type wire antenna (MTWA) to be internally mounted in a mobile terminal is proposed and analyzed numerically and experimentally. Agreement is remarkable between the numerical and experimental analyses for the electromagnetic radiation patterns. Radiation characteristics of the MTWA are maintained over the 4 % bandwidth around 3.38 GHz with the calculated maximum gain of about 7.8 dB, providing desirable characteristics for the mobile terminal application. Also, radiation patterns for the MTWA are simulated using SEMCAD in order to see the effect of a head phantom.
