Abstract :
The effect of UWB interference on a WiMax system operating in the 3.5 GHz frequency band has been addressed in this paper. A recent coexistence issue between these two systems has been paid much attention in the European regulation bodies. The debate is whether the transmit power level will be -70 dBm/MHz or -85 dBm/MHz, in the range of 3.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz of UWB frequency band. The results are analysed by means of different transmitting power levels, calculation of interference zone in the surrounding of a victim receiver and probability of interference. First an analytical results analysis is performed and later the SEAMCATregtool based on Monte-Carlo simulation methodology is used to evaluate the interference effect on the victim receiver. It is shown that for a -70 dBm/MHz UWB transmit power interference will not have a destructive effect on the performance of a WiMax receiver.
