Abstract :
The authors show the importance of eigenvalue sensitivity analysis in the design of drive systems. It is demonstrated that the eigenvalue sensitivity can be used to identify an association between the eigenvalues and the parameters of the system, and can provide useful guidance in choosing the system parameters. Eigenvalue sensitivity can also be used to find possible sources of instability, and to determine the most sensitive parameters. The insight into the behavior of the drive system which can be gained from the sensitivity analysis provides valuable guidance in the system analysis and design. An 800-hp, gate turn-off thyristor (GTO) current source inverter (CSI) induction machine drive is used as an example for the sensitivity analysis. The results obtained are verified by both frequency and time domain simulation methods.<>
