Abstract :
A new form of switched reluctance motor is proposed, in which the windings are fully pitched. It is demonstrated by a series of static torque tests on a rewound commercial machine that the new arrangement can lead to an increase in output torque per unit winding loss of between 30 and 90%, depending upon load condition and excitation sequence in the new machine. A number of potential conduction sequences are considered for the fully pitched winding machine, involving both unipolar and bipolar conduction. The complexity of modeling this machine is shown, and a method of analysis that involves transforming the machine equations to an equivalent decoupled set is developed.<>
