Abstract
This paper derives an accurate analytical expression of the fundamental-frequency impedance of a thyristor-controlled reactor when used as part of a transmission line series compensator. The formula is a function of thyristor firing angle, line inductance, and compensator capacitance. A numerical example illustrates the accuracy of two approximate expressions at different levels of line compensation
